Heather - Can you re-post your explanation for #booradleyvancullen ? Pretty please?
Yep! When I started recapping PLL, no one would watch it with me, and I was like, “Damn, man. This show is for sharing with friends.” Back then, I was convinced that Toby was this Boo Radley/Serena van der Wooden/Edward Cullen hybrid, so I asked AE readers to tweet about the show with me while we watched using the #BooRadleyVanCullen hashtag. I had only just joined Twitter, so I didn’t know having a zillion-character hashtag was a dumb idea. I thought it’d just be a funny little in-joke with me and the 12 lesbians who were reading my recaps. But then the thing took on a life of its own and became the funnest thing about PLL. And it had nothing to do with me. It was like the show was speaking to us, and we were speaking back to it in our own language. What’s remarkable is that the show eventually started adopting some of our language to use with their own language. It’s the first true TV/social media symbiosis I have ever seen. Again: The awesomeness of #BooRadleyVanCullen isn’t me. It’s the mind-meld of some of the cleverest people on the website pages.
